SAN ANTONIO — UTSA, winners of eight of its last 10 contests, will wrap up an eight-game home stand on Tuesday night against Baylor. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Wolff Stadium.
The Roadrunners (19-22) used walk-off wins in the final two tilts against Lamar last weekend to claim their second Southland Conference series sweep this season.
Senior Tommy Vukovich scored the final run of UTSA's three-run ninth inning to give the Roadrunners a 13-12 victory on Saturday. Redshirt freshman RJ Perucki paced the Birds at the plate over the weekend with a .545 batting average (6-for-11). It was Perucki's base hit that tied Saturday's contest and led to the Lamar miscue to allow Vukovich to score the winning run.
UTSA continued its offensive surge in the weekend series.
The Roadrunners hit .364 on the strength of 39 hits, including eight home runs, slugged at a .645 clip and scored 27 runs against the Cardinals. UTSA improved its overall batting average to .300, the second-highest in the Southland.
Freshman Riley Good leads the Roadrunners with a .376 batting average and is tied for sixth in the nation (second among freshmen) with 67 hits. The Godley native also leads the squad with 14 doubles and 15 stolen bases while ranking second with 30 RBIs. Sophomore Ryan Dalton has been on a tear over the last five games, hitting five home runs and driving in 16 runners.
Freshman southpaw Michael Kraft (1-2, 5.79 ERA) will make his fifth start of the season on Tuesday night. His lone win came on Feb. 27 against Saint Joseph's when he allowed an unearned run and three hits with four strikeouts in 6.2 innings of work.
Baylor enters the contest with a 21-20 mark overall and a 6-6 record on the road. The Bears have lost four of their last five games, including two of three against Missouri last weekend. At the plate, Baylor is led by Max Muncy, who is hitting .321 with five home runs and 31 RBIs.
Right-hander Brooks Pinckard will start on the mound for the Bears. Pinckard, who is making his first career start, is 2-2 with a 4.56 ERA in 15 appearances out of the bullpen this season. A year ago, he was one of the top stoppers in the nation with 12 saves and he has three this spring.
Tuesday's contest marks the 32nd meeting between the two schools. The Bears hold a 27-4 advantage, but UTSA knocked off the nation's then-No. 19th-ranked squad, 4-2, on March 29 at Baylor Ballpark.
