SAN ANTONIO — Fresh off a doubleheader sweep of Houston Baptist on Wednesday, the UTSA softball team will look to climb up the Southland Conference standings this weekend when it takes on Central Arkansas in a three-game series that begins on Saturday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
The Roadrunners (19-22, 9-12 SLC) have dropped seven of their last nine conference games and sit sixth in the league standings.
Senior Carrie Monroe is in the midst of a seven-game hitting streak that has raised her batting average to .305. The Austin native is 11-for-25 (.440) with a home run, three RBIs and seven runs scored during the stretch that dates back to April 5.
Junior Morgan Luksa has thrown well in her last five appearances, posting a 0.70 ERA in 10 innings. She has combined for a pair of shutouts and recorded a win and a save while allowing opposing hitters to a .162 batting average.
The Bears (20-23, 7-11 SLC) are one of the top hitting teams in the Southland with a .282 average.
Melanie Bryant paces the offensive attack with her league-leading .431 average, 56 hits and 35 RBIs. Meanwhile, pitcher Kelsie Armstrong leads the staff with a 12-15 record and 2.06 ERA in a conference-best 173.1 innings pitched. She leads the Southland with 168 strikeouts.
UTSA leads the all-time series 10-2, including a 5-1 mark at Roadrunner Field. The Roadrunners dropped the first game of last season's three-game set in Conway before taking the final two, including the rubber contest, 6-2.
