Roadrunners to conclude home stand on Tuesday

SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA softball team will wrap up a seven-game home stand on Tuesday when it hosts Texas Southern in a 3 p.m. doubleheader.

The Roadrunners (14-20) will be looking to snap a three-game losing streak after being swept by UT Arlington last weekend.

Senior Kristin Kappler started all five games last week and hit .429 (6-for-14) with a home run and three RBIs. She recorded a career-high three hits in Sunday's series finale against the Mavericks. Meanwhile, senior Danyé Holmes started four games and hit .444 (4-for-9) with a pair of RBIs and posted a 2.57 ERA in seven innings of work against Houston Baptist and UT Arlington.

The Lady Tigers (17-20) enter the series with a .336 team batting average, a mark that leads the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). In all, Texas Southern leads the SWAC in 13 offensive categories, including slugging percentage, runs, hits and RBIs.

Yesenia Torres has a league-leading 41 hits and 34 RBIs, while Rebecca Villareal's 5.01 ERA is the best among regular starters on the squad.

UTSA leads the all-time series 8-0, including a doubleheader sweep on March 16 in which the Roadrunners took both games by identical scores of 6-1 at Memorial Park.
