SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA softball team will travel to Lake Charles, La., this weekend for a three-game series at defending Southland Conference Tournament Champion McNeese State. The set gets underway with 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday at Cowgirl Diamond. and the finale will be played at noon the next afternoon.
The Roadrunners (11-15, 7-5 SLC) enjoyed a 4-1 record last week with a pair of wins at Texas Southern and at home against Sam Houston State.
Junior Ashley Kappler led the offense with a .550 average (11-for-20) in the five games, while senior Emily Humpal picked up a pair of wins and recorded a 1.10 ERA in the circle.
The Cowgirls (11-19, 5-7 SLC) are paced by Claire Terracina’s .309 batting average, while Molly Guidry’s five home runs and 20 RBIs are tops on the squad.
UTSA leads the all-time series 39-26 and the two teams split a pair of rare nonconference games earlier this season at the Getterman Classic. The Roadrunners defeated the Cowgirls, 3-2, on the opening day of the campaign before falling 4-0 in the tournament finale on Feb. 13.
