FRISCO — UTSA senior right-hander Taylor Walton was named the Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
Walton threw his second career complete game in a 4-1 victory at UT Arlington on Saturday. The Midland native gave up an unearned run on seven hits and struck out two in improving to 3-2 on the season. That performance helped snap the Roadrunners' seven-game losing streak. He also worked a scoreless inning of relief on Tuesday night against Notre Dame. All told, he held opponents to a .235 batting average in his 10 frames of work.
UTSA (7-15, 1-5 SLC) is back in action on Friday night when it begins a three-game series at Sam Houston State (12-8, 1-5 SLC).
