ARLINGTON — Senior Taylor Walton tossed the second complete game of his career and he helped lead UTSA to a 4-1 victory at UT Arlington on Saturday at Clay Gould Ballpark.
The win snapped a seven-game losing streak for the Roadrunners (7-14, 1-4 SLC), who won their first game in two weeks.
A native of Midland, Walton allowed only an unearned run while scattering seven hits and he struck out two and walked just one to improve to 3-2 on the year.
The Mavericks (11-8, 3-2 SLC) managed their lone run in the second on a misplayed ball in right field by senior Tyler Carpenter, who bobbled a single off the bat of Jake Pinchback, which allowed Jordan Vaughn to score.
UTSA scored single tallies in the third and fifth to take a 2-1 lead and the Roadrunners scored two more in the sixth to close out the day's scoring.
Junior Casey Selsor doubled down the left-field line, which brought home senior Ryan Hutson, who reached after being hit by a pitch, from first. Two batters later, sophomore Jake Wood plated Selsor with a single to right.
Collin Reynolds (1-2) took the loss for after allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits in six innings of work. He struck out five Roadrunners.
Selsor finished the day with a pair of hits, while Wood and freshmen Riley Good and RJ Perucki each tallied a hit and drove in a run.
The rubber game of the series will be contested at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
