SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will travel to Houston on Wednesday for a 2 p.m. doubleheader at Texas Southern.
The twinbill will end a six-game road trip for the Roadrunners (7-14).
Freshman Molly Fichtner continues to lead the Southland Conference in slugging percentage (.864), on-base percentage (.542) and home runs (6) and she also ranks second in batting average (.441). Senior Emily Humpal anchors the pitching staff with a 2-0 record and a 3.06 ERA, which is 12th in the league.
The Lady Tigers (8-12) are led by Monica Castillo, who ranks in the Southwestern Athletic Conference's top three in batting average (.455), on-base percentage (.529) and hits (20).
UTSA will look to do some damage against a Texas Southern pitching staff that owns an 8.68 ERA. Victoria Veyna takes the bulk of the work in the circle and she has recorded a 5.96 ERA in 44.2 innings of work.
The Roadrunners are a perfect 6-0 all-time against Texas Southern, a ledger that includes an 8-0 victory on March 5, 2005, at the Hyatt Regency Cougar Classic in Houston.
UTSA defeated Texas Southern 26-1 on April 8, 2004, in its only appearance at Memorial Park and set NCAA single-game records for home runs (10) and total bases (64) while topping program marks with 28 hits and 25 RBIs.
