SAN ANTONIO — Seven unanswered runs, including four in the deciding seventh, helped propel Southeastern Louisiana past UTSA, 8-5, on Saturday at Roadrunner Field.
UTSA (6-11, 0-2 SLC) held a 5-1 advantage through five innings before the Lions (11-4, 2-0 SLC) mounted their late comeback.
After cutting the lead to three after back-to-back Roadrunners errors in the sixth, Southeastern put up a four-spot the next frame, including the go-ahead run, which scored after Jeff Harkensee singled to right field.
The Lions added insurance tallies in the eighth and ninth to put the contest out of reach, giving then their seventh consecutive win in the series.
Jason Greenleaf (1-1) earned the win in relief after tossing 2.1 scoreless innings and Stefan Lopez recorded the final five outs, including three via strikeout, for his fourth save of the spring.
Junior Cody Scott (1-3) took the loss surrendering the go-ahead in the seventh.
UTSA struck first in the opening inning when junior Casey Selsor, who started on the mound, scored on a Joseph Koon wild pitch.
After Southeastern Louisiana scored its first mark in the third, the Birds went back in front in the home half of the frame when senior Ryan Hutson, who was making his inaugural start of the season, left the park.
An inning later, sophomore Daniel Rockett belted a solo homer and Hutson hit his second of the day, a two-run shot in the fifth, to cap the Roadrunners' scoring.
Hutson was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and he pushed his career home run total to 40, which now ranks second in program history. Jeff Juarez (1996-99) is UTSA's record holder with 47.
The Lions pounded out 15 hits on the day and were led by Jonathan Pace, who went 3-for-5 with four RBIs, and Justin Boudreaux's four hits.
UTSA will look to avoid being swept by the Lions for the second consecutive season in Sunday's 1 p.m. finale.
