UTSA men to continue road trip with three matches in Pacific Northwest

SAN ANTONIO — After starting its Southland Conference schedule with three consecutive wins, the UTSA men will step out of league play this weekend with three matches in Portland, Ore.

The Roadrunners (6-5) will open the busy three-day stretch at 4 p.m. (CT) on Friday against Seattle. UTSA then will take on Montana at 5 p.m. the next day before ending the trip to the Pacific Northwest with an 11 a.m. tilt on Sunday at Portland. All three matches will be played at Portland's Louisiana-Pacific Tennis Center.

UTSA split a pair of matches last weekend, including a 4-3 conference victory at UT Arlington.

Sophomores Martin Ayala and Tyler Brown are tied for the team lead with identical 8-3 records in singles play. Ayala also has teamed up with senior Daniel Moreiras to form the most successful Roadrunners' doubles pair. The duo has registered a 6-1 record at the top position this spring.

Seattle (2-9) has dropped its last two outings, including a 6-1 decision against Saint Mary's last Saturday. The Redhawks' last win came on Feb. 26 against Montana State-Billings. Jason Bendiones has posted a 9-2 ledger in singles play, while Jordan Prince and David Kovas have combined to win seven matches in doubles action.

Montana (3-2) will play Portland on Friday prior to squaring off with the Roadrunners. The Grizzlies lost in their last outing, a 5-2 decision at Eastern Washington last Saturday.

Meanwhile, Portland (7-1) has won five straight matches and the Pilots will take on Montana and Oregon prior to hosting UTSA. Ratan Gill owns a team-leading 17-3 combined mark in singles play, which includes a 7-1 record this spring. Justin Guay and Michel Hukwo have combined to post a 10-2 mark to lead the doubles contingent.
