SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA men's tennis team swept all three doubles matches and came out on top in four of the six singles contests en route to a 5-2 home victory against Lamar on Saturday. The tilt was the Southland Conference opener for both teams.
The Roadrunners improved to 4-4 overall with their second consecutive win, while the Cardinals dropped to 2-4.
Sophomore Martin Ayala improved to 6-2 on the season in singles action by recording his third consecutive straight-sets win. Ayala downed Robert Lee, 6-2, 6-4, at the No. 1 spot
Meanwhile, sophomore Tyler Brown notched a quick 6-1, 6-1 triumph against Marton Horvath at the No. 3 position.
Freshman Yannick Junger and junior Daniel Moser also won their matches at the Nos. 2 and 6 slots, respectively. Moser was a straight-sets winner against Diego Snyder (7-6, 6-2), while Junger dropped the first set to Denis Ermilov before bouncing back in a 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 decision.
UTSA will continue Southland play on Sunday against Nicholls (6-3, 0-2 SLC). First serve is scheduled for noon.
