LAS CRUCES, N.M. — UTSA concluded its five-match road trip on a successful note with a 7-0 victory against Northern Arizona on Sunday.
Sophomore Martin Ayala, the two-time reigning Southland Conference Player of the Week, once again paced the squad by winning his No. 1 singles match (6-4, 6-4) and he also teamed up with junior Pedro Zanotelli for an 8-6 triumph at the top doubles spot.
The Roadrunners (3-4), who snapped a three-match losing streak, secured the doubles point when sophomore Tyler Brown and freshman Yannick Junger picked up an 8-4 victory at the No. 2 position.
Junger and Brown both cruised to straight-set wins at Nos. 2 and 3 singles, respectively, while senior Max Stratmann also won in straight sets at the No. 4 slot. Junior Daniel Moser also was victorious after dropping the first set (6-7 [4-7], 6-1, 1-0 [10-7]) at No. 5 singles.
The Lumberjacks (2-7), whch lost their seventh straight outing, defaulted a pair of matches (No. 3 doubles/No. 6 singles).
UTSA opens Southland play on Saturday, Feb. 26, when it hosts Lamar.
