SORRENTO, Fla. — The UTSA women's golf team shot an opening-round 302 on Sunday and the Roadrunners are tied for 15th at the UCF Challenge.
Sophomore Paola Valerio and freshmen Fabiola Arriaga and Taylor Newlin each carded 75s to lead the way. The group currently is tied for 48th on the individual leaderboard.
Valerio recorded birdies on Nos. 1, 4 and 15, while Arriaga and Newlin shot even par before three bogeys brought their scores up at the end of the round.
No. 14 Tulane (284) sits atop the team leaderboard, while Kentucky's Ashleigh Albrecht and Coastal Carolina's Jessica Alexander each shot a 66 to lead the 92-woman field.
The second round will be played on Monday.
