Roadrunners to open spring season at UCF Challenge

SAN ANTONIO — With the highest ranking in program history, the No. 57 UTSA women's golf team will open its spring season at the UCF Challenge in Sorrento, Fla., from Feb. 13-15. The 17-team field, which features seven teams ranked in golfstat.com's top 50, will play 18 holes with tee times on Sunday and Monday before a shotgun-start final round on Tuesday.

Format: Three-day event with tee times on Sunday and Monday with a shotgun start on Tuesday

Fabiola Arriaga (Fr. – Torreon, Mexico)
· Tied for 16th at the Chip-N Club Invitational, Sept. 13-14
· Fourth on the squad with a 76.88 stroke average
· Low round of the fall was a 72 at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championships, Oct. 8-10
· Recorded a 74 in her first collegiate round

Summer Batiste (Jr. – Austin, Texas)
· Best finish of the fall was tied for 13th at the Alamo Invitational, Oct. 31-Nov. 2
· Second on the team with a 74.83 stroke average
· Only player to record an eagle on the season
· 2009-10 Second Team All-Southland

Taylor Newlin (Fr. – Frisco, Texas)
· Finished tied for fourth in her first collegiate tournament, the Chip-N Club Invitational, Sept. 13-14
· Third on the team with a 75.55 stroke average
· Shot a 69 at the Mercedes-Benz Women's Championship, Oct. 8-10
· Finished in the top 15 in two of four fall tournaments

Bruna Spengler (Jr. – Santa Cruz do Sul, Brazil)
· Will be making her second appearance this season
· Owns a career 79.65 stroke average
· One of the squad's most experienced players, she will be playing in her 17th career tournament

Paola Valerio (So. – Mexico City, Mexico)
· Set school records with a 66 and 54-hole score of 212 to finish fifth at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championships, Oct. 8-10.
· Leads the team with a 74.64 stroke average
· Finished in the top-11 in three of the four fall tournaments
· 2010 first-team All-Southland Conference
