TUCSON, Ariz. — Sophomore Mitchell Griffin fired a two-over-par 73 during Monday's opening round and the UTSA men’s golf team is in 12th place after the first day of the Arizona Intercollegiate, which is being played at the Arizona National Golf Club (6,793 yards/par 71).
Play in the second round was suspended due to darkness and will resume at 9 a.m. (CT) on Tuesday followed immediately by the final 18 holes. The golfers battled cold and rainy conditions throughout the entire day.
Griffin is tied for 16th place, as he has completed 27 holes at three-over 109. His first 18 was highlighted by birdies on the second and fourth holes, while he has registered a pair of birdies thus far in round two.
The Roadrunners are at 28-over 303 in the 16-team field. UNLV, UTEP and San Diego State are tied for the lead at nine-over-par.
Freshman Ryan Werre is two shots behind Griffin and tied for 31st in the 93-man field. The Lethbridge, Alberta, native turned in a two-over 74 in the first 18 and has tallied a two-over 37 through nine holes in the second round.
Sophomore Nicko Dodd is tied for 49th (+8), senior Lewis Chong is tied for 64th (+13) and sophomore Austin Struble is tied for 75th (+15).
