McClanahan extends school shot put record at Houston Invitational/Multis

HOUSTON — Sophomore Zaquita McClanahan extended her program shot put record by nearly a foot on Saturday to highlight the UTSA women's track & field team at this weekend's two-day Houston Invitational/Multis.

McClanahan put the implement 46-8 ¾ (14.24m) en route to a sixth-place finish. It easily broke the mark of 45-9 (13.93m) she established during her inaugural campaign and improved her season best by one foot, four-and-a-quarter inches, which ranks second in the Southland Conference.

Senior Taelor Wilson finished third in the weight throw on Friday night after recording a personal-record 52-2 (15.90m). The mark moved her from fourth to second on the program's all-time performers chart and she stands fourth on the league's leaderboard.

Rounding out the field highlights was sophomore Jessica Edwards, who finished as the top collegian (fourth overall) in the long jump with her season-long leap of 18-6 ½ (5.65m).

The Roadrunners also received solid performances from freshmen Grace Williamson and Nina Herrera and senior Shavonne Armbrister on the track.

Williamson circled the Bill Yeoman Fieldhouse oval four times in a career-best 2:14.82 and finished sixth in the 800m. The clocking is good for fifth on UTSA's all-time performers list and it stands second in the conference standings.

Meanwhile, Herrera clocked a 10:17.55 in finishing 10th in the first 3,000 meters race of her career. The time was good for fourth on the school's all-time performers list.

Armbrister rounded out the strong efforts with her fifth-place finish in the 400m. The San Antonio native peeled off a Southland season-best 57.36, which was the top time among collegians.

UTSA is back in action next weekend at the prestigious New Balance Invitational in New York City. The two-day meet begins on Friday, Feb. 4.
