UTSA topped by Louisiana-Monroe in season opener

DALLAS — The UTSA women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to Louisiana-Monroe in the season openers for both programs on Saturday.

The Roadrunners (0-1) lost at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles, which allowed the Warhawks (1-0) to claim an early 1-0 lead.

ULM then won five of the six singles matches to polish off the five-point triumph.

Sophomore Kavya Menon gained UTSA's lone point of the day with a straight-sets win against Letha Gaigher at the No. 5 spot (6-0, 6-3).

After winning the opening set, junior Stefanie Peana fell in three frames to Monica Winkel at the top singles position.

The Roadrunners will finish the opening weekend with a 2 p.m. contest at No. 27 SMU (2-0) on Sunday.
