FRISCO — Headlined by freshman Anka Grotle’s selection to the top squad, six members of the UTSA women’s soccer team were named to All-Southland Conference teams, the league office announced on Tuesday.
The Flora, Norway, native has started all 19 matches at defender and registered 10 points this season (three goals/four assists). The only freshman named to the first team, she is the fifth honoree in the program's five-year history.
Meanwhile, seniors Allison Dillon and Chelsea Zimmerman and freshman Maria Jose Rojas were named to the second team.
Dillon’s 14 points on the year are second on the team, while her six goals lead the squad. The forward’s three goals in Southland play ranked eighth among conference players this fall.
Zimmerman recorded eight points on the strength of two goals and four assists from the midfield posiition. The Mansfield native is the second player in school history to be named first or second team all-conference all four years.
Rojas has started all 19 games at forward and recorded 14 points (four goals/team-leading six assists).
Senior Laurel Dierking and sophomore Dacia Webb picked up honorable mention accolades.
Dierking has scored four goals on the year, including the game-winner against I-35 rival Texas State, to go along with three assists.
Meanwhile, Webb has posted an 8-5-1 record in goal this season and she recorded four shutouts in conference play.
Southeastern Louisiana goal keeper Lacey Bockhaus and Stephen F. Austin midfielder Kylie Louw were named Co-Players of the Year, while Sam Houston State forward Tricia Mallory picked up Freshman of the Year honors and Texas State goalie Lauren Frazier was named Newcomer of the Year.
Southeastern Louisiana head coach Blake Hornbuckle was named Coach of the Year after leading the Lady Lions to the league's regular season championship.
The third-seeded Roadrunners (11-7-1) open Southland Tournament play at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday against No. 6 seed Lamar (5-10-3) in San Marcos.
