Batiste paces UTSA on second day of Alamo Invitational

SAN ANTONIO — Junior Summer Batiste carded a one-under-par 71 on Monday and the UTSA women’s golf team stands in sixth place with a two-round total of 591 (298-293) at the Alamo Invitational, which is being played at Briggs Ranch Golf Club.

The Spring native recorded a pair of birdies on the front nine and followed that up with an even-par 36 on the back side. The round vaulted her into a tie for 19th with a 148 (77-71).

After shooting even par in the first round, junior Shannon Jungman shot a two-over 74 on the day. The Pfulgerville native was even coming in after a birdie and two bogeys on the front nine. The round moved her into a tie for 13th (72-74=146).

Freshman Taylor Newlin fired a 75 for the second consecutive day and is tied for 28th. Newlin’s lone birdie came on No. 10 while she increased her number of even-par holes from the first round.

Sharing the 28th spot on the leaderboard is freshman Fabiola Arriaga, who lowered her score from the first round by four strokes (73). She shot even par on the front nine with a bogey on No. 1 and a birdie on No. 5, before bogeys on Nos. 11 and 12 brought her to a 36-hole score of 150 (77-73).

Sophomore Paola Valerio rounded out the scoring for the Roadrunners with an 82 (57th/74-82=156).

TCU fired a seven-under-par 281 to move atop the team leaderboard with a 575 (294-281). The Horned Frogs’ Brooke Beeler leads the individual standings with a seven-under 137 (67-70).

The final round tees off at 11 a.m. on Tuesday.
