SOUTH BEND, Ind. — The UTSA women's golf team finished with a 54-hole total of 946 (312-314-320) and it finished 12th at this weekend's William K. Warren Irish Invitational.
Sophomore Paola Valerio entered Sunday's final round tied for 13th and she used three birdies to move up to 10th on the individual leaderboard. Her third-round 75 gave her a 227 (76-76-75) for the two-day tournament. It marked the third top-10 finish of her collegiate career and the Mexico City native finished just one shot behind Ohio State's In-Hong Lim, who is ranked as the No. 72 individual by golfstat.com.
Meanwhile, freshman Fabiola Arriaga's 82 dropped her into a tie for 21st with a 233 (74-77-82), while fellow first-year player Taylor Newlin improved to a tie for 47th (80-81-79=240) after a final-round 79. Juniors Shannon Jungman and Bruna Spengler rounded out the Roadrunners' scoring, finishing 64th (82-80-86=248) and in a tie for 70th (86-83-83=252), respectively.
Tournament host and nationally-ranked Notre Dame took the team title with a 905 (305-298-302), while Louisville's Sara-Maude Juneau took individual medalist honors with a 215 (72-74-69).
UTSA will hit the links again when it travels to Knoxville, Tenn., from Oct. 8-10 for the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championships.
