Selman boots UTSA past Nicholls in home finale

SAN ANTONIO — Senior Kim Selman's first career goal gave UTSA a 1-0 win against Nicholls on Sunday in the Roadrunners' home finale.

UTSA (10-6-1, 5-1-1 SLC) closed out the most successful home campaign in school history (7-3), a mark that included four Southland Conference wins.

The Birds nearly grabbed the lead in the fifth minute when freshman Maria Jose Rojas' shot beat Colonels goalie Molly Mersereau, but the drive hit the far post.

UTSA outshot Nicholls (6-9-1, 0-7 SLC) in the first half, 9-2, but neither team could get on the scoreboard.

Selman's high-arching shot in the 50th minute sailed over Mersereau's head to give the Roadrunners all the offense they would need.

UTSA's defense kept the Colonels away from sophomore goalie Dacia Webb, holding them to just five shots. The shutout was the team's seventh overall and fourth in conference action, while Webb recorded her fourth white-washing of the season.

The Birds close out the regular season next weekend with road matches at Sam Houston State (9-8-1, 5-2 SLC) and Stephen F. Austin (11-5-1, 4-2-1 SLC).
