Southeastern Louisiana hands UTSA first Southland loss of year

SAN ANTONIO — Karly Dagys' goal in the 57th minute was enough offense for Southeastern Louisiana to hand UTSA its first Southland Conference loss of the season in a 1-0 win on Friday night at the Recrational Sports Complex.

Both teams had chances in the opening period.

The Lady Lions (11-2-3, 4-1-1 SLC) threatened in the fifth minute when Dagys' attempt sailed over sophomore goalie Dacia Webb and hit the crossbar. Freshman Laylla da Cruz went on to hit the crossbar in the 43rd minute.

With a 12 mph wind at their backs in the first half, the Roadrunners (9-6-1, 4-1-1 SLC) outshot Southeastern 10-4 but were unable to break through with a goal.

The Lady Lions broke the scoreless tie when Dagys beat the UTSA defense and took a long pass from Kerry McWhirter, dribbled down the right side and beat Webb for her fourth goal of the season.

The Roadrunners tallied nine shots in the second half, but none found the back of the net, as they dropped a match for the first time since a 4-1 setback to TCU on Sept. 24.

UTSA will conclude its home schedule with at 1 p.m. tilt on Sunday against Nicholls (6-8, 0-6 SLC).
