SAN ANTONIO — Off to its best Southland Conference start in program history, the UTSA women's soccer team will look to stay atop the league standings this weekend when it plays its final two home matches of the season. The Roadrunners will host Southeastern Louisiana at 7 p.m. on Friday and Nicholls two days later at 1 p.m.
The Roadrunners (9-5-1, 4-0-1 SLC) will honor seniors Laurel Dierking, Allison Dillon, Jenna Pawelek, Kim Selman and Chelsea Zimmerman at halftime of Friday's match as part of their Senior Night festivities.
UTSA, 11th in the country in goals per match (2.60 gpm), continues to lead the Southland in five offensive categories, [points (120), goals (39), goals per game (2.60), assists (42), assists per game (2.80)].
A pair of wins on the weekend would give the Roadrunners their most in program history. The current mark of 10 victories was set by the 2008 team and the Birds are also chasing their best Southland record of all-time, 6-2-1, set by the '07 and '08 squads.
Southeastern Louisiana (10-2-3, 3-1-1 SLC) are 4-1-1 on the road this season and are led by Maiya Cooper's seven goals. Goalie Lacey Bockhaus leads the conference in goals against average, allowing just 0.64 goals per game.
UTSA never has beaten the Lady Lions in four tries, including a 3-0 loss last season in Hammond, La.
Nicholls' (6-7-1, 0-5 SLC) offense is spearheaded by Kaity Mattsson, who leads the league and ranks tied for seventh in the country with an average of 0.857 goals per game. Four of the Colonels' six wins have come away from home as it sports a 3-4-1 road record to go along with one neutral site win.
The Roadrunners never have lost to Nicholls (3-0-1) and the two squads battled to a 1-1 tie in Thibodaux, La., a year ago.
