UTSA showcases skills for Major League Baseball scouts

SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA baseball team hosted its annual scout day on Monday at Roadrunner Field. Nearly 20 Major League Baseball (MLB) scouts were in attendance to watch the Roadrunners participate in workouts and a scrimmage.

UTSA players showcased their skills through timed 60-yard sprints, batting practice, defensive drills and a full intra-squad scrimmage.

The Roadrunners have produced 21 players who have been drafted by MLB clubs, including 13 under the direction of 11th-year head coach Sherman Corbett. Matt Crocker, a 12th-round selection by the Colorado Rockies in June, became the third-highest selection in the program's 19-year history behind Mark Schramek (2002/first round/Cincinnati Reds) and Jeff Hutzler (1995/10th round/San Francisco Giants).
