South's two goals power UTSA to third consecutive victory

SAN ANTONIO — Sophomore Lindsay South scored two goals and the UTSA women's soccer team remained undefeated in Southland Conference play with a 3-0 win against Central Arkansas on Sunday at the Recreational Sports Complex.

After scoring the game-winning goal on Friday night, junior Jodi Leroy set up what proved to be the clincher against the Bears. Leroy sent a perfect touch to South, who fired a shot over the head of Central Arkansas goal keeper Kelsey Gochnauer in the 35th minute.

The Roadrunners (8-5, 3-0 SLC) wasted no time in adding to their lead, as freshman Laylla da Cruz set up senior Allison Dillon's  team-leading fifth goal of the season a mere 36 seconds later.

South notched her second winner of the day (fifth of the year) in the 78th minute off feeds from Dillon and da Cruz for the final three-goal cushion.

The UTSA defense did its part in the second half, limiting the Bears (4-7-2, 0-3-1 SLC) to just four shots en route to its fifth shutout of the season.

The Roadrunners improved to a perfect 5-0 all-time against Central Arkansas.

UTSA will look to stay unbeaten and match its best conference start in program history on Friday, Oct. 15, at McNeese State (4-9-1, 1-2-1 SLC).
