Roadrunners to host Texas State in Southland Conference opener

SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA women's soccer team will open Southland Conference play at 7 p.m. on Friday when it hosts preseason favorite Texas State at the Recreational Sports Complex.

The Roadrunners (5-5) will look to snap a two-match slide after losses to Houston and TCU. Freshman Maria Jose Rojas leads an offense that ranks ninth in the country with 3.1 goals per match. The Santiago, Chile, native's 13 points (four goals/five assists) tops the team.

UTSA is 1-1-2 all-time against the Bobcats and never has posted a victory in the Alamo City. Texas State came away with a 3-1 victory last season in San Marcos.

Picked by coaches and sports information directors to win the conference, Texas State (6-4) enters Friday's match in the midst of a four-match winning streak that includes shutouts against Grambling State, Prairie View A&M and TCU. The Bobcats have allowed just one goal in their last 360 minutes of action.

Preseason all-conference selection Britany Curry's nine goals rank tied for ninth in the nation and lead an offense that averages two goals per match. Head coach Kat Conner is in her 12th season at Texas State and owns a 120-100-16 record.
