Roadrunners finish 16th at UTA Waterchase Invitational

FORT WORTH — Freshman Ryan Werre tied for 62nd to lead the UTSA men’s golf team to a 16th-place finish at the UTA Waterchase Invitational.
 
The Roadrunners turned in a 307 in Tuesday's third-and-final round to follow Monday’s 299 and 298 and finished at 904 in their season-opening tournament.
 
Werre carded a 78 on Tuesday after firing a 74 and 75 on Monday to finish at 227 for 54 holes. Sophomores Nicko Dodd (73-78-77=228) and Mitchell Griffin (72-74-82=228) tied for 67th, while junior Payne Wilkie tied for 74th (80-71-78=229). Freshman Eddie DeVane tied for 86th (80-79-74=233) and senior Lewis Chong, competing as an individual, tied for 74th (76-73-80=229).
 
North Texas won the team championship with an 844 (276-280-288), followed by Southern Mississippi (285-281-299=865) and Louisiana Tech (295-286-286=867). Derek Plucienski of Southern Miss and North Texas' Curtis Donahoe tied for the individual title at seven-under-par (209).
 
The Roadrunners return to the course on Oct. 1-2 when they travel to Albuquerque, N.M., to compete in the William H. Tucker Invitational.
