Rockett lands on Baseball America's top summer prospects list

Sophomore Daniel Rockett was the HCBL's Most Valauble Player this past summer.

SAN ANTONIO — Sophomore outfielder Daniel Rockett was named to Baseball America's list of top summer prospects on Monday, as the Sugar Land native was tabbed the Hawaii Collegiate Baseball League's (HCBL) No. 5 prospect.

Rockett played in 34 games for the Waikiki Surfers this past summer, hitting a team-best .345 (40-for-116) with eight doubles, four triples, two home runs and 22 RBIs. He also slugged at a .534 clip and posted a .458 on-base percentage.

Rockett was named the league's Most Valuable Player after claiming the circuit's batting title and helping lead the Surfers to the HCBL Championship. In fact, he belted a deciding two-run homer, which propelled Waikiki to the championship game. On July 8, Rockett became the first player in HCBL history to hit for the cycle.

"Daniel had an outstanding summer," UTSA 11th-year head coach Sherman Corbett said. "He has a tremendous amount of talent and we look for him to continue to be a major part our success. Daniel is a quality defensive player and his improvement at the plate could make him one of the top players in the league next spring."

Rockett hit .227 with five doubles, four round-trippers and 13 RBIs in 43 games (37 starts) as a freshman for the Roadrunners.
