SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA soccer team will open the season this weekend when it travels to Prairie View for the Holiday Inn Waller College Invitational. The Roadrunners will face Alcorn State at 5 p.m. on Friday and tournament host Prairie View A&M at 1 p.m. two days later at Lady Panther Field.
UTSA has never faced the Lady Braves, but the Roadrunners own a 2-0 all-time advantage against the Lady Panthers. The Birds defeated Prairie View A&M, 7-0, on Aug. 30, 2006, for the program’s first-ever victory and they also registered a 4-0 win on Sept. 27, 2009. Both contests were held in San Antonio.
Head coach Steve Ballard welcomes back 15 letterwinners, including seven starters, for his fifth season at the helm. The Roadrunners posted a 9-10-2 record last season and finished fifth in the Southland Conference with a 4-3-2 mark, qualifying for their fourth consecutive postseason tournament.
