Senior Pernilla Savestrand finished second in the metric mile on Saturday.
AUSTIN — Senior Pernilla Savestrand finished second in the 1,500 meters to highlight action for the UTSA women’s track & field team at the Texas Invitational held Saturday at Myers Stadium.
A week after winning the 800m and 3,000m steeplechase at the Texas State Triangular, Savestrand posted a runner-up time of 4:36.68 in the metric mile. That performance was just off the Gothenburg, Sweden, native’s season-best of 4:33.64 recorded at the Mt. SAC Relays two weeks ago.
Junior Jayde James was close behind Savestrand in third place with a personal-best 4:40.59 clocking. Baylor’s Cate Westenhover was the winner in 4:32.94.
Redshirt junior Dana Mecke posted a third-place time of 2:09.83 in the 800m, an effort that was just shy of her personal-best 2:09.42 recorded at the Trinity Alumni Classic on April 10. James took sixth with a PR of 2:13.98.
Meanwhile, sophomore Courtney Nelson knocked nearly 20 seconds off her personal best in the 3,000m steeplechase. The San Antonio Reagan High product stopped the clock in 11:33.30 to finish fourth and better her previous PR of 11:52.89 registered last week.
In the 100m hurdles, senior Jessica Jones raced to a fifth-place time of 13.74, while freshman Amanda McGill clocked a season-best 14.02 for ninth in a field of 29 athletes. McGill also turned in a season best in the 400m hurdles with a third-place time of 1:00.94.
Junior Shavonne Armbrister also posted a season-best, circling the Myers Stadium oval in 55.81 to finish 14th in the 400m.
The Roadrunners are scheduled to compete in the Trinity Last Chance next Saturday, May 8.
