Univision, UTSA to hold "Realities of Recruiting" phone bank on Thursday night

SAN ANTONIO — KWEX Univision 41/San Antonio and the UTSA Athletics Department will hold a “Realities of Recruiting” phone bank from 5-6:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Univision 41 can be found locally on channel 8 on AT&T U-verse, Grande Communication and Time Warner Cable.

The phone bank will begin with an interview with UTSA President Dr. Ricardo Romo, a Fox Tech High School and University of Texas graduate who became the school’s first Hispanic president in 1999. Former UTSA men’s basketball player David President also will discuss his experiences as a recruited student-athlete from Temple High School and now as a high school coach in Marble Falls.

Throughout the two-hour event, viewers will be ale to call (877) 614-4141 and ask questions about college athletics. Four phones will be answered by Spanish-speaking representatives of the UTSA Athletics Department, Football Equipment Manager Mike Villa, Assistant Soccer Coach Janio Cabezas, Assistant Sports Information Director Carlos Valdez and Football Student Assistant Oscar Garcia, while two additional lines will be manned by English speakers, Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance Josh Daume and Head Soccer Coach Steve Ballard.

This event is part of Univision’s "Es El Momento" ("The Moment Is Now") initiative focused on high school graduation, college readiness and completion and parental and community involvement.
