FRISCO — A pair of Roadrunners have been honored with the release of the All-Southland Conference Softball Teams, as sophomore shortstop Caitlyn Ivy was named to the first team and senior outfielder Rudi Cantu picked up honorable mention accolades on Tuesday.
It marks the first career conference honor for Ivy, a native of Huntington who led UTSA in eight major offensive categories: batting average (.383), hits (62), doubles (7), home runs (Southland-best 12), RBIs (40), total bases (107), slugging (.660) and on-base percentage (.455). Ivy, who started all 52 games at shortstop, leads the Southland in home runs and slugging and ranks second in RBIs, third in hits and fifth in runs (36). She registered 19 multiple-hit games, including five with three base knocks, and drove in two or more runs in 11 contests. Her .383 batting average is eighth on the school’s single-season list and her .353 career average stands third all-time.
Ivy is the 22nd Roadrunner to earn first-team honors (32 total awards) and gives UTSA a first-team selection for the eighth consecutive season.
Cantu was recognized by the league for the fourth time in her career. The Alvin native batted .276 with 50 hits, a team-high 40 runs, three doubles, two triple, a career-best four home runs and 19 RBIs. Cantu also swiped 22 bases on 26 attempts, the second-best season in school history. She broke Shannon Steadman’s career stolen bases record midway through her senior campaign and finished with 59 thefts. Cantu also broke the school’s career triples record with her eighth three-bagger in April. Cantu previously earned first-team honors at second base in 2008, second-team accolades in the outfield in 2009 and a third-team certificate in the outfield in 2007.
