Freshman Daniel Rockett hit his first home run as a Roadrunner on Friday night.

SAN ANTONIO — Jarid Scarafiotti's two-run single to left with two down in the seventh broke open a 2-2 contest and Stephen F. Austin won the opener of this weekend's three-game series with UTSA, 4-2, on Friday night at Roadrunner Field.

The Lumberjacks (20-9, 8-4 SLC) picked up their first win at the Bird Bath since April 17, 1993, and broke a 10-game losing streak in the process at the on-campus home of the Roadrunners (12-16, 3-10 SLC).

SFA jumped out to a 2-0 lead on Jordan Lewis' two-out RBI single in the second and Darren Crabtree's run-scoring base hit off the glove of freshman first baseman Jake Wood one inning later.

Back-to-back one-out homers from junior Tyler Carpenter and freshman Daniel Rockett in the bottom of the third tied the contest at two. The long ball was Carpenter's third of the season and extended his hitting streak to a season-long nine games, while Rockett left the park for the first time as a Roadrunner.

Southpaw Tyler Herriage (5-2) allowed just a pair of runs on five hits in his six innings of work. He walked three and struck out eight in the 110-pitch outing. Cory Ochs fanned three in his two frames and Jason West whiffed a pair in a scoreless ninth for his sixth save of the season. The 13 punchouts were a season high for the Lumberjacks.

Sophomore lefty Casey Selsor (4-3) picked up the loss after surrendering four runs on nine hits in his 6.2 frames of action. The San Antonio native walked four and fanned a career-high seven.

Tanner Hines went 2-for-5 with a double to extend his hitting streak to 18 games and Lewis added a pair of hits to lead Stephen F. Austin at the plate.

Senior Lance Brown went 2-for-4 to pace the Roadrunners.

The series continues at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
