COLLEGE STATION —  The UTSA men’s tennis team had its seven-match winning streak come to an end in a 4-0 loss at No. 12 Texas A&M on Monday.

The Roadrunners, who lost for the first time in more than three weeks, dropped to 11-7 on the season, while the Aggies improved to 17-4 overall.

“We’ve had these guys for two and half months and it’s the routine about how we go through our warm-up, and our stretches and getting the mental part ready for us,” head coach Dr. Olive Trittenwein said. “We didn’t have any of that, but it happens in college tennis. A&M came out today and they stayed focused and took care of business at one, four, and five.”

The match began with singles action and Texas A&M picked up all four wins in straight sets.

John Lewis got things started with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over junior Daniel Morerias at the No. 5 spot. Marcus Lunt then snapped junior Max Stratmann’s five-match winning streak with a 6-2, 6-2 decision at No. 4. The Aggies clinched the match with wins at the Nos. 1 and 6 slots, sending the Birds to their first setback since March 6 at UAB.

UTSA closes out its current four-match road trip at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi with a noon match on Saturday.
