Junior Emily Humpal took a no-hitter into the final inning and belted two home runs on Saturday.

SAN ANTONIO — Junior Emily Humpal carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning and added a pair of home runs at the plate to help lead the UTSA softball team to a 7-1 victory against Texas State on Saturday afternoon at Roadrunner Field.

With the win, the Roadrunners improved to 22-27 overall and 14-13 in Southland Conference play in winning their fourth straight league set and now have been victorious in nine of their last 11 contests. The Bobcats fell to 22-21 and 17-7.

Humpal was 2-for-2 with four RBIs in slugging her third and fourth long balls of the season and she struck out three and allowed just a leadoff single in the seventh inning to run her record to 13-14 on the season.

Junior Danye Holmes and sophomore Caitlyn Ivy collected two hits and an RBI apiece to help lead the Birds' eight-hit offensive attack.

UTSA struck for four runs in the bottom of the first, all with two outs. Sophomore Caitlyn Ivy drew a walk and junior Danye Holmes blooped a short single to left field to put runners at the corner. Junior Kristin Kappler then lined a base hit over the third baseman’s glove to drive in the first run of the game. Humpal then sent the first pitch she saw from Chandler Hall deep over the fence in left center field to stake the Roadrunners to a 4-0 lead.

The Roadrunners added a run in the next frame on a two-out single through the left side of the infield by Ivy that plated senior Kelly Cato, who reached on a one-out single up the middle.

Humpal went yard for the second time with one out in the fourth, this time greeting Libby Dennis with a deep blast over the center field fence to increase the lead to 6-0.

The Bobcats scratched for a run with the benefit of a pair of errors in the fourth. McKenzie Baack reached second on a fielding error in the outfield and moved to third on a passed ball. Jenna Emery was then hit by a pitch for the second time in the game to put runners at the corners. Emery then executed a delayed steal of second and the throw from the UTSA catcher went into center field, allowing Baack to score easily from third.

Holmes got that run back for the Roadrunners in the fifth, lifting a 3-1 pitch just over the right field fence for her seventh bomb of the season.

Texas State broke up the no-hit bid in the top of the seventh, as Anna Hernandez grounded a base hit up the middle to start the frame. That would be the only hit the Bobcats could manage off the right-hander, as she picked up her second win of the series in her fourth complete game in the last six appearances.

Hall was tagged with the loss for Texas State, as she allowed five earned runs on five hits in two innings to fall to 15-11.

The Roadrunners will take a two-week break for finals before traveling to Natchitoches, La., for a three-game series at Northwestern State on May 8-9.
