UTSA to open Southland Conference Tournament play against Nicholls

SAN ANTONIO — The No. 2 seed UTSA men’s tennis team with face third-seeded Nicholls at noon on Saturday in the first semifinal match of the Southland Conference Tournament in Corpus Christi.

When: Saturday-Friday, April 24-25

Where: Corpus Christi Country Club

UTSA Notes: UTSA (11-9) is led by first-team All-Southland Conference honorees senior Jorge Delgado and junior Max Stratmann. Delgado has collected a team-leading 13 wins this spring, including a 4-1 mark in league action. Meanwhile, Stratmann, an all-league performer in doubles the last two seasons, ranks third on the squad with nine victories. Stratman and freshman Tyler Brown lead the Roadrunners with 11 triumphs in doubles play.   

Nicholls Notes: No. 3 seed Nicholls enters postseason play with an 14-5 overall record. The Colonels are led by the league’s Freshman of the Year and first-team all-conference performer Dmitry Kozionov. The Izhevsk, Russia, native has posted a 15 singles wins this year.

Last Meeting: UTSA handed the Colonels a 4-3 setback on March 18 in Thibodaux, La.

Last Time Out: UTSA dropped a 4-3 decision against UT Arlington last Sunday at the UTSA Tennis Center.
