THIBODAUX, La. — Lacey Gros tossed a one-hitter to lead Nicholls to a 6-0 victory against UTSA on Sunday afternoon at the Colonels Softball Complex.
Gros fanned 11 batters and gave up just a single to center by senior Krista Sitka in the fourth inning to run her record to 11-5 on the season. Her performance helped the Colonels salvage game three of the series and improve to 21-14 overall and 13-8 in the Southland Conference. The Roadrunners fell to 18-26 and 12-12.
Ashton Bennett launched a two-run home run to left center field, her first long ball of the season, in the bottom of the second, the first runs of the three-game series for Nicholls.
Bennett and Natalie Travasos each had two-run singles in the next frame to push the lead to 6-0.
Junior Emily Humpal (9-13) took the loss for UTSA, allowing six runs on six hits in three panels.
The Roadrunners will travel to Houston for a non-conference doubleheader against Houston Baptist on Wednesday, April 21.
