Freshman Keith Benford tied UTSA's high jump record on Friday.

WALNUT, Calif. — Freshman Keith Benford recorded his second UTSA record of the year in the high jump to highlight the Roadrunners men's track & field team this weekend.

Benford won the Mt. SAC Relays university/open division championship on Friday with his clearance of 7-0 ½ (2.15m), which vaulted him to the top of the Southland Conference leaderboard (No. 20 nationally). That performance matched the program's outdoor mark previously established by P.J. McGowen (2008), Steven Ortiz (2002) and Justin Youngblood (2002). The Pflugerville native recorded UTSA's indoor standard (7-2 ¼/2.19m) three months ago at the Leonard Hilton Memorial, which was his first collegiate meet.

Meanwhile, junior Devon Bond followed up his school-record triple jump performance at the Texas Relays with a second-place effort on Friday. The Trenton, N.J., native skipped to a 50-1 ¼ (15.27m) measurement to finish as the top collegian in the university/open division and was just a half inch behind gold medalist Keinan Briggs.

The Birds also received bronze-medal efforts from senior Teddy Williams in Saturday's 100 meters invitational (10.27w) and junior Kyle Kaase in Friday's pole vault university/open B division (16-0 ¾/4.90m).

At Friday's local Trinity Twilight, freshman Adam Hebert recorded a pair of first-place performances. The Poteet native sped to a season-best 10.61 in winning the 100m and went on to break the sand in a personal-record 23-10 ¼ (7.27m) in the long jump.

UTSA is back in action next Saturday, April 24, at the Texas State Invitational in San Marcos.
