NATCHITOCHES, La. — Northwestern State finished off a weekend Southland Conference sweep of UTSA with a come-from-behind 6-5 victory and 12-2 eight-inning triumph on Saturday afternoon at Brown-Stroud Stadium.

Trailing 5-3 and down to their final three outs in the opener, the Demons (25-10, 12-5 SLC) reeled off five consecutive singles to open the ninth and crossed the plate three times to stun the Roadrunners (13-21, 4-14 SLC).

It was then all Northwestern State in the nightcap, as J.P. Davis' squad registered 16 hits, including five home runs, en route to the 10-run victory.

Andrew Plotkin (3-1), who struck out the side in a perfect ninth, picked up the victory in the lid-lifter. Meanwhile, Demons southpaw Andrew Adams (2-3) was victorious in the finale after giving up just one run on five hits, while striking out seven in six innings of work.

UTSA right-handed closer Kevin Clarke (3-1) blew his third save in six chances after allowing the final four hits in the first game and righty Mike Pierce (0-6), who was touched for four runs on seven hits in three innings, was tagged with the loss in the nightcap.

Junior Tyler Carpenter singled in the third in the opener and added a base hit in his final at-bat of the day to extend his hitting streak to 15 games. Meanwhile, sophomore Casey Selsor went a combined 3-for-9, including his sixth homer of the year in the first contest, pushed his streak to a career-long nine.

The Birds also got a long ball from senior Lance Brown, who left the park for the first time this spring to lead off the fifth in the second contest.

UTSA continues its season-long nine-game road trip next Friday when it travels to Beaumont for a league series at Lamar (22-15, 8-9 SLC).
