CONWAY, Ark. — Sophomore Ashley Kappler went 3-for-4 with two home runs and four RBIs to help lead UTSA to a 6-2 win against Central Arkansas on Sunday afternoon at Farris Field.
With the win, the Roadrunners improved to 14-25 overall and 10-11 in the Southland Conference. The Bears fell to 15-26 and 5-12.
Kappler launched her third and fourth long balls of the season to lead a nine-hit attack by UTSA.
Meanwhile, junior Emily Humpal (7-12) was solid in the circle, as she struck out six batters and allowed just two unearned runs – both in the seventh inning – in a three-hit complete game.
UTSA struck for a pair of runs in each of the first two panels.
Senior Rudi Cantu led off the game with an infield single, stole second and scored on a base hit to center field by Kappler. Kappler then moved over to third on consecutive wild pitches and came home on a single to left by junior Danye Holmes.
Kappler’s first round-tripper of the game came in the second inning with senior Chelsey Chapman on board after a bunt single to make it 4-0.
Kappler led off the fifth with a solo blast to left field. Sophomore Caitlyn Ivy singled and later scored on a ground out by sophomore Laura Little to increase the lead to 6-0.
The Bears pushed two runs across in their final inning on a single by Candice Gauntt.
Kelsie Armstrong, who tossed a one-hitter on Saturday, fanned seven but surrendered six runs on eight hits in four frames to fall to 11-12.
The Roadrunners will host Houston Baptist in a non-conference doubleheader at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 14.
