SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA women’s tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision against Lamar on Friday at the UTSA Tennis Center.
The Roadrunners saw their season record fall to 4-14 overall and 1-8 in Southland Conference play, while the Lady Cardinals improved to 9-8 and 4-3 in league action.
Lamar's Mariaryeni Gutierrez and Manijee Ashrafi defeated freshman Vivian Carrillo and sophomore Micaela Silva 8-1 at the top doubles spot. The Birds made things interesting when junior Carolina Dedering and sophomore Katie Ottenbreit picked up an 8-3 win at No. 3, but the Lady Caridnals won the point when Kaltrina Harbuzi and Natalie Mayagoitia dealt freshmen Kavya Menon and Mariel Maffezzolli an 8-3 loss at the No. 2 position.
Lamar then won all six singles matches in straight sets to seal the victory.
UTSA returns to action at 11 a.m. on Saturday against McNeese State.
