SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA women’s tennis team fell 6-1 against I-35 rival Texas State on Tuesday at the UTSA Tennis Center
The Roadrunners dropped to 3-9 on the season and 0-5 in conference play, while the Bobcats improved to 8-2 and 4-0 in league action.
Texas State began the contest by winning all three doubles matches for the early 1-0 lead.
The Bobcats then took five of the six singles tilts on the day.
Andrea Giraldo put Texas State up 2-0 with her 6-1, 6-0 win against sophomore Micaela Silva at the top spot. Sophomore Katie Ottenbreit then suffered her first league setback with a 6-2, 6-1 loss against Nyssa Peele at the No. 6 slot.
Freshman Kavya Menon put the Birds on the board when she came off the court with a 6-7, 6-3, 11-9 win versus Gebriela Rojas at the No. 3 position. However, Melissa Hadad clinched the match for Texas State with a straight-sets victory (6-1, 6-4) at the No. 2 spot.
UTSA returns to action this weekend with a pair of road matches at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (March 13) and Texas-Pan American (March 14).
