UTSA wraps up Border Olympics tied for 15th place

LAREDO — The UTSA men’s golf team concluded the Border Olympics tied for 15th place with a final scorecard of 311-306-309=926 on Saturday, which was held at the Laredo Country Club (7,125 yards/par 72).

Senior Emiliano Martinez was UTSA’s top finisher for the tournament. The Laredo native posted scores of 76-75-77=228, while freshman Mitchell Griffin concluded his day two strokes behind Martinez with a three-round total of 230. Fellow first-year players Taylor Koser and Nicko Dodd wrapped up their event with scorecards of 232 and 238, respectively.

“Our score was not what we hoped for today,” head coach John Knauer said. “Everyone on the team fought it out in some bad weather. We had a little more rain toady and not as much wind, but it was still tough to make birdies. I have said this before, we are just grateful to get a chance to compete against such great teams with four freshmen in the lineup. It will be huge for the future of this program.”

UTSA heads to Ruston, La., for the Louisiana Tech Intercollegiate on March 15-16.
