UTSA to begin five-game road trip on Tuesday night

SAN ANTONIO —UTSA kicks off a five-game road trip on Tuesday night when it squares off with Houston in a 6:30 p.m. contest at Cougar Field.

The Roadrunners, who are 9-13 overall, will be looking to end a season-long six-game losing streak. The Birds' last victory came in an 8-2 triumph on Friday, March 19, against UT Arlington. UTSA is 2-7 away from the friendly confines of the Bird Bath this spring and it has dropped its last four road tilts.

Senior Ryan Rummel continues to be the bright spot for the Roadrunners offensively. He is hitting a team-best .417 with five doubles, a triple, three home runs and a dozen RBIs. The Uvalde native also is reaching base in half of his plate appearances and his 36 total bases translate to a squad-leading .750 slugging percentage. Meanwhile, junior Tyler Carpenter is coming off a 7-for-13 performance against Sam Houston State last weekend and he has recorded back-to-back three-hit performances from the leadoff spot.

Houston is sporting a 12-10 record this year and it picked up a home series win against Central Florida this past weekend. The Cougars, who have won three of their last four outings overall, have been victorious in four of their last half dozen tilts at home since being swept by Texas State to open the 2010 campaign.

UH leads the all-time series that dates back to the 1992 season, 15-7, but the two teams have split the last six meetings. UTSA has come out on top in each of the past two matchups in the Bayou City by scores of 14-8 (March 4, 2009) and 11-9 (12 innings/April 30, 2008).

The road trip will continue on Thursday night when UTSA begins a three-game Southland Conference series with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at Whataburger Field.
