· Final results

SORRENTO, Fla.   The UTSA women’s golf team registered a team total of 930 (307-309-314) to finish 14th at this week's The UCF Challenge.

"We started poorly today as a team, but did not give up and really played well after the first five holes," head coach Carrie Cole said. "Our next event in Arizona will be another good field and we will be working hard the next two weeks to prepare."

Freshman Paola Valerio ended the tournament with a top-20 showing in her Roadrunners debut. The Mexico City, Mexico, native entered the final round tied for fifth with a 1-under par, but she struggled on the day and posted a final-round 83 for a two-day total of 226, which was good for 17th on the individual leaderboard.

Senior Shelly Martinez wrapped her day four strokes behind Valerio and tied for 32nd. Meanwhile, sophomores Shannon Jungman and Summer Batiste turned in scorecards that total 238 apiece.

Texas A&M overcame a seven-shot deficit to win the team crown by two strokes over Georgia State, while the Aggies’ Julia Boland claimed the individual title with a three-round score of 65-70-75—210.
