THIBODAUX, La. —  The UTSA men’s tennis team won its fourth consecutive match with a 4-3 victory at Nicholls Thursday afternoon.

The Roadrunners improved to 8-6 overall and 2-0 in conference play, while the Colonels saw their record fall to 9-4 on the season and 1-2 in league action.

Nicholls won the doubles point with wins at Nos. 1 and 3 positions for the 1-0 lead.

The tandem of freshman Tyler Brown and junior Max Stratmann collected their seventh win of the season with an 8-6 triumph at No. 2.

UTSA was able to rally in singles action to post the one-point win.

Stratmann got the Roadrunners on the board with his 6-3, 6-4 win against Eric Fisher at the No. 4 slot. Senior Jorge Delgado then made it 2-1 when he came off the court with a straight-sets win at No. 6 (6-4, 6-3). Dmitry Kozinov registered a pair of 6-4 wins at No. 5 to make it two-all and Radu Ionescu posted a two-set win (6-3, 6-3) against Brown at the top slot to put the Colonels up one. However, senior Rodrigo Morgado knotted the match at three after he dealt Vlad Popa a 6-4, 6-1 loss at No. 3

The point would come down to freshman Martin Ayala and Phenyo Matong at the No. 2 spot. Ayala white-washed Matong 6-0 in the first set but then fell 6-3 in the second frame. The Quito, Eduador, native regrouped to win the final set 7-6, giving the Birds the victory.

UTSA continues its nine-match road swing next weekend at Texas Tech (March 26) and against New Mexico (March 27) in Lubbock.
