EDINBIRG — UTSA dropped its seventh consecutive match on Sunday with a 4-2 setback at Texas-Pan American.

The Roadrunners saw their record fall to 3-11 on the season, while the Lady Broncs (1-9) collected their first win of the year.

Freshman Kavya Menon teamed with fellow first-year player Mariel Maffezzolli at No. 3 doubles to defeat Sarah Burton and Andrea Salvetova, 8-4, but it wasn’t enough, as UTPA secured the point with wins at Nos. 1 and 2 slots.

The Lady Broncs then posted wins in three of the half dozen singles contests to pick up the triumph.

Sophomore Micaela Silva lost (6-7 [5-0], 6-4, 6-3) in a hard-fought battle at the No. 1 spot against Luisa Cantu. Sophomore Katie Ottenbreit then posted a straight-sets win over Burton at the No. 5 position, 6-1, 6-2. Freshman Vivian Carrillo tied the match at two with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 4 versus Reeta Raty. However, Pan American collected wins at Nos. 2 and 3 positions to clinch the match.

The Birds return to action on Friday, March 19, when they host Maryland-Baltimore County in a 10 a.m. match at the UTSA Tennis Center.
