NEW ORLEANS, La. — The UTSA men’s tennis team opened its nine-match road trip with a 6-1 win at New Orleans on Sunday afternoon.
The Roadrunners evened their record to 6-6 on the season, while the Privateers fell to 2-7.
The Birds started the day off by winning two of the three doubles matches for the 1-0 lead.
UTSA took the No. 3 position in a walkover and the senior-freshman duo of Rodrigo Morgado and Martin Ayala collected a 8-6 win against Stepan Siska and Guilherme Rebolo to clinch the point.
The Roadrunners carried their momentum into singles play and won five of six matches.
UTSA took a 2-0 lead at the No. 6 spot via a walkover and then pushed its advantage to three when senior Jorge Delgado won a 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5. New Orleans got on the board when Siska handed freshman Tyler Brown a straight-sets loss (6-3, 6-4) at the top spot. Junior Daniel Moreiras gave the Birds the win when he came off the court with a pair of 6-2s win against Rohit Chivukula at the No. 4 spot. Junior Max Stratmann collected a 6-3, 7-6 win versus Abdelrahman Zaki at the No. 3 position.
UTSA continues its nine-match road swing at Tulane on Tuesday afternoon.
