Sophomore Katie Ottenbreit picked up a victory at No. 6 singles on Saturday afternoon.

CORPUS CHRISTI — The UTSA women’s tennis team fell at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 5-2, on Saturday at the Corpus Christi Country Club.

The Roadrunners dropped to 3-10 overall and 0-6 in conference play, while the Islanders improved to 7-7 on the season and 3-4 in league action.

A&M-Corpus Christi swept the doubles point to start the afternoon with 1-0 lead.

The freshman-sophomore tandem of Kavya Menon and Katie Ottenbreit competed at the No. 2 position, but the pair was unable to outlast Doris Kuselj and Bianca Discordia and lost, 9-7.

The Islanders then won four of the six singles matches to secure the victory.

Menon gave the Roadrunners some motivation when she defeated Adrienne Kovacs at the No. 3 spot, 6-3, 6-4, to make the score 2-1. However, Kuselj won at the No. 2 position, 6-2, 7-5, to push the advantage back to two. Ottenbreit pulled the Birds within one with her No. 6 singles victory over Nadia Filmalter (7-5, 2-6, 10-7), but Texas A&M-Corpus Christi sealed the match at the top spot when Mirna Cicak dealt sophomore Micaela Silva a straight sets loss (6-3, 6-2).

UTSA is back in action at 10 a.m. on Sunday when it plays at Texas-Pan American.
