FRISCO – Sophomore Whitney York and freshman Judy Jones were named second-team All-Southland Conference, while junior Ashleigh Franklin collected third-team honors, the league office announced on Monday.
York is in the midst of a career season after missing most of the2008-09 due to injury. The Bryan native is leading the Roadrunners inscoring at 15.0 points per game, a mark that ranks fifth in the league. Shealso paces the team with a 43.9-percent field goal percentage, 83 assists(3.0 apg) and 53 steals (1.9 spg). She also has posted 22 double-digits scoring outings, including a half dozen of at least 20 points.
Meanwhile, Jones has had a solid rookie campaign. The Monroe, La., native ranks second on the team with 6.8 rebounds per game and five double-doubles. She has seen action in 27 contests (12 starts) and has posted the squad's third-best scoring average at 10.6 points per game.
Franklin has enjoyed a productive first season as a Roadrunner. The Dallas native has started all 29 contests and leads the team with 8.8 rebounds per tilt, the second-best average in the circuit, and nine double-doubles. She also is second on the team with 11.9 points per game. Franklin posted the third-best rebounding performance in school history with a career-high 22 at Sam Houston State on Feb. 20.
The two-time defending Southland Tournament Champion Roadrunners head to Katy as the No. 4 seed and will play fifth-seeded UT Arlington at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
