Freshman Tyler Brown picked up a three-set win on Saturday at No. 1 singles.
SAN ANTONIO — UAB dropped the doubles point, but the Blazers rallied to win four of the six singles matches and they scored a 4-3 win on Saturday at the UTSA Tennis Center.
The Roadrunners fell to 4-6 on the season, while UAB improved to 7-4 overall.
UTSA swept all three doubles matches for the 1-0 lead.
In singles action, Daniel Moser tied the match with his straight-sets win (6-1, 6-1) against junior Max Stratmann at the No. 4 position. David Zimmerman gave the Blazers the lead with his 6-2, 7-6 victory against senior Rodrigo Morgado at No. 2.
Freshman Tyler Brown made it two-all after he came off the court with three-set triumph at the top spot. Brown dropped the first set, 6-1, to Danny Manlow, but he regrouped with back-to-back wins in the next two frames (6-1, 6-3). Freshman Martin Ayala put the Birds up 3-2 at the No. 3 slot after outlasting Alex Emery, 6-2, 6-7, 6-3.
At No. 6 singles, Thomas Petrich posted a pair of 6-0 wins versus sophomore Shariq Khan and Dan Corni then clinched the match at the No. 5 position.
UTSA returns to action at noon on Sunday against No. 50 New Mexico State.
